GreenLife Expo 2018

Saturday, January 27th
Athens Regional Library

GreenLife ExpoThe 2018 GreenLife Expo is here and Free I.T. Athens is proud to be a part of the annual event once again! Athens-Clarke County Recycling Division and the Athens Clark-County Library, have teamed up to bring community organizations and members together for a fantastic time of family oriented learning to reduce our carbon footprints and save natural resources for future generations.

There will be hands-on workshops and panel sessions related to industry and education. For the kids, there are various activities from 12 to 2 pm, a petting zoo, live music and a screening of the film Chasing Coral at 2pm.

The Free I.T. Athens crew will have an information table and our truck out in the parking lot for donations of any old computers/computer accessories that you might not know how to dispose of. Bring them out and we will take care of them, either refurbishing or properly recycling unusable items.

The Green Life Expo is going to be held Saturday, January 26th from 10a-4p at the ACC Library on Baxter St. There’s no cost for admission, so come say hello and learn a little bit about how you can help reduce e-waste!

Quick update on Holiday Hours

FRITA has a few unusual hours this month so that volunteers can spend time with loved ones. Please be aware that we’ll be closed for shopping, donating, tech support-ing, and volunteering on the following days:

  • Christmas Eve: CLOSED
  • December 26th: NO ORIENTATION

Other than those two days, FRITA is open for the regular schedule. Happy holidays, everyone!

The volunteer manual was badly in need of an update, so volunteers dusted it off and fixed it up. We’re proud to say it’s finished!

In the manual you’ll find all sorts of useful tid bits, such as:

  • information about FRITA’s mission of bridging the digital divide, reducing the negative impact of ewaste, and advocating for free software
  • a sneak peak of some of the many ways new volunteers can pitch in during open hours
  • a list of volunteer perks, such as taking home a free laptop for meeting volunteer milestones!
  • copies of important forms, documents, and policies

New Board Elected at Annual Meeting

For those of you who missed it, annual meeting 2017 was a success! The board for the upcoming term will be Nina, Mika, Shawn, Kris, Jon, and Charlie.

The meeting was more than just boring votes though (we actually almost forgot to vote altogether!). It was a chance to set aside the screw drivers and thermal paste tubes to look around and thank some hardworking folks.
